Why this one instead of the “free” invoice sites?

Most “free invoice generators” make you create an account, hand over your email, or pay to remove a watermark — and your client list sits on their servers. This page is different by design: it is a static tool that runs entirely in your browser. There is no server to sign up to, nothing is uploaded, and the optional Save button uses your own browser’s localStorage. Free because there is nothing to charge for.

How to make an invoice in 60 seconds

  1. Add your details and the client’s. Type your business name and contact info, then the client’s name and billing address. Set the invoice number, issue date and due date.
  2. Add line items. One row per service or product: description, quantity or hours, and rate. The amounts and subtotal calculate automatically.
  3. Apply tax or a discount. Add a tax percentage or a discount if either applies — both are shown as separate lines above the total.
  4. Print or save as PDF. Click Print / Save as PDF and choose "Save as PDF" as the destination. The layout prints as a clean one-page invoice with no watermark.

What a complete invoice must include

Before you hit send, check the seven essentials — missing any of them is the most common reason invoices get paid late:

Invoicing for freelancers

The hard part of invoicing is rarely the invoice — it is knowing the hours behind it. Track time as you work, total your billable hours, then drop the numbers into the line items above (description, hours, hourly rate). If you bill by the hour regularly, a dedicated tracker pays for itself fast — see our comparison of the best time-tracking apps (several have generous free plans). Pair it with the billable hours calculator to total a week, and the freelance rate calculator to make sure the rate on the invoice actually covers your costs.

Frequently asked questions

Is this invoice generator really free?

Yes — completely free, with no signup, no email wall, no watermark fee and no “first 3 invoices free” trial. There is no account to create because everything runs in your browser; we never see your invoice at all.

How do I save my invoice as a PDF?

Click “Print / Save as PDF”. In the print dialog that opens, change the destination/printer to “Save as PDF” (built into Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari) and click Save. The print layout hides everything except the clean invoice itself, so the PDF looks like a professional document.

What must an invoice include?

At minimum: the word “Invoice”, a unique invoice number, your business name and contact details, the client’s name and address, the issue date, a description of goods or services with quantities and rates, the total amount due, the due date, and payment terms. Sales tax or VAT should be shown separately where it applies.

What is the difference between an invoice and a receipt?

An invoice is a request for payment — you send it before you are paid, and it states what is owed and when it is due. A receipt is proof of payment — you issue it after the money arrives. Same transaction, opposite ends: invoice asks, receipt confirms.

Do you store my invoice data?

No. Nothing is uploaded to any server — the generator is pure client-side code. If you click “Save”, the invoice is stored in your own browser’s localStorage on your device so it reloads next visit; “Clear” deletes it. We cannot see, store or recover your invoices.
